The adventure of the Under-16 national team in the UEFA Development Tournament in Portugal begins in the best possible way. In Mirandela Italy beat Sweden 5-2 and momentarily takes the lead in anticipation of the other match of the day between Portugal and Belgium scheduled for the afternoon in Bragança. The goals of the Azzurrini, who were good at coming from behind the goals of the Swedish Jonsson twice, bear the signatures of the AC Milan striker Francesco Camarda, author of a brace, Cristian Cama (Roma), Andrea Orlandi (Empoli) and Mattia Mosconi (Inter).
THE MATCH. The start was uphill because in the 3rd minute Sweden took the lead with a valuable volley from Jonsson, but Italy’s reaction was not long in coming and in the half hour Camarda converted the penalty to make it 1-1 after a knockdown in area against Mosconi. It was again Jonsson at the end of the half who brought his goals forward, unleashing the reaction of the Azzurrini, who first grabbed the draw with Cama in the second half and then spread it between the 70 ‘and 80’ thanks to goals from Orlandi, Camarda and Mosconi.
“We showed greater play intensity and quality especially when we had the ball – the analysis of coach Daniele Zoratto – while in the non-possession phase we made mistakes that cost us two goals. Sweden are a good team, who attack spaces well, and in fact the game was in the balance until halfway through the second half. In the substitutions, however, we had something more, being able to count on a superior squad”.
On Saturday in Bragança (4 pm Italian time) Italy will have to deal with Belgium, already beaten 2-1 in comeback last November 1st at the Val de Marne Tournament. Take advantage of the line-up changes, given also the tournament regulations which require each player to remain on the field for at least 90 minutes over the three matches: “It will probably be a more difficult match than today – warns Zoratto – also because compared six months ago they added several interesting guys to the group.”
