Judo Wimpassing: 11 new national champions for the JCW

Successful day of fighting at the Lower Austria state championships

On May 6th, 2023, the state championship for the age groups U10 to U16, U21 and the general class took place in Wiener Neudorf. A total of 254 judoka from 16 clubs fought for the national championship title in their age and weight class. With a strong club performance of eleven state champions, five vice state champions and seven third places on this day, the JC Wimpassing Sparkasse ranked third in the club ranking behind JU Klosterneuburg and Judoteam SHIAI DO.
There were two gold medals in the U10. The first gold medal went to Magdalena Klöckl (-25kg), who didn’t give her four opponents a chance. She could win every fight with Ippon. In the third fight she showed special fighting spirit. After a tie in ratings in the regular fight time, the fight decided in its favor after more than four minutes of fight time.
Oliver Rella (-22kg) took care of the second gold medal in the U10. He was clearly superior to his two opponents and deservedly won both fights with wonderful throws.
Maximilian Tscheppe (-34kg) was in a strong weight class with eight starters. In the quarterfinals he was able to leave the mat as the winner after just seven seconds. Unfortunately, he lost in the semifinals due to carelessness. In the fight for third place, however, he showed his determination again against his club colleague Luis Neubauer and won the bronze medal.
In the U12, Skadi Brunner (-32kg) was in a class of its own in her weight class with six starters. She dominated all fights and confidently won the national championship title. Since there was no opponent in her weight class, Mia Polleres went one weight class higher and thus also up to 32kg at the start. After a defeat at the start, she showed her will to fight and won the bronze medal with mental strength.
Marlene Lechner (-36kg) marched safely to the gold medal. She clearly showed her superiority and strength against her three opponents. Club colleague Olivia Frey also fought in this weight class and showed good fights against her other opponents after a difficult fight against club colleague Marlene Lechner. In the last fight she was able to prevail in the golden score overtime after 7 minutes and 40 seconds and secured the bronze medal.
Lilli Kernbeis (-40kg) also showed courageous fights. Although she still has little fighting experience since she has only been doing judo for almost a year, she only had to give up one of her four fights. In the remaining fights she showed her determination and can therefore look forward to her first vice national championship title.

There were also two third places for the U12 boys. Gor Hakobjan (-30kg) unfortunately had to give up his first fight due to a wrong judge’s decision, but after that he was able to win all his fights with Ippon and thus took third place.
Tyler Kerbler (-34kg) provided the second bronze medal. Unfortunately, in the first fight he was careless in the last second and suffered an opening defeat. After that, however, he showed great judo and was able to confidently take third place with great techniques.
In the U14 there were a total of five medals. Brunner Ilvie (-48kg) started her competition day cautiously against her only opponent. However, she did not give up the other two fights and secured the national championship title.
Tessa Neubauer (-52kg) had even less combat experience than her opponents. But she was able to assert herself once with an ippon and was happy about the bronze medal at the end of the day.
Connor Parker (-30kg) showed very good commitment and fighting spirit in both of his fights, but was a bit unfocused in one fight. In the other fight, however, he left the mat as the winner and became vice national champion.
Yurik Hakobjan (-46kg) was unbeatable that day. Safe and tactically strong, he won his three fights and deservedly secured the national championship title.
Luis Polleres (-66kg) won another gold medal in the U14. He again showed his extreme will to win and thus won his first national championship title.
There were also three national championship titles in the U16. Sebastian Jenull (-46kg) provided the first gold medal in this age group. Neither of his opponents found a recipe against him that day and Sebastian was able to bring the title home with ease.
Christoph Vakil (-50kg) had to face the same opponent twice. He showed his superiority in both fights and won the day.
Askil Brunner (-60kg) was also able to prevail against his opponent twice and thus won the third gold medal in the U16.
Unfortunately, Thomas Seiser (-55kg) had to give up his first fight. In the following two fights, however, he showed his strength again and at the end of the day secured the vice national championship title.
Four Wimpassingers also started in the general class.
The experienced fighter Stefan Morgenbesser (-73kg) proved that he still has the competitive experience. He clearly dominated all of his fights and provided brilliant ippon throws. He was beaming with the state championship title.
In addition to Stefan Morgenbesser, three judoka from our adult group also took up the challenge. Anna-Maria Lackner (-63), who was already successful in combat in her youth, made a comeback on the competition floor. In the first fight against Susanne Lechner, who used to be a strong competitor to our national team fighter Michi Polleres, she unfortunately had to admit defeat. In the second fight, however, she showed her mental strength and secured the silver medal with a fight victory.
Christian Bauer (-66kg) showed courageous fights against his opponent, but at the end of the day he unfortunately lacked some fighting experience.
Unfortunately, Daniela Neubauer (-57kg) also went away empty-handed, but was happy about the great fighting experience.
