The Swedish hockey team played subgroup A matches in Tampere, but will play against Latvia in the quarter-finals on Thursday in Riga. The semi-finals and final will take place at the weekend in Tampere, with the winning teams in Riga going to Finland.
“After contacting our biggest group of supporters, I found out that they do not have a group trip to Riga planned. It is planned that those who are in Tampere will stay and watch the game in the fan zone on the big screen,” said Hugoson.
As Edgars Buncis, the head of the Latvian organizing committee of the 2023 world hockey championship, told the LETA agency on Wednesday, there has been no request or interest from the Swedish side in providing a separate fan sector, therefore, tickets for the game for Swedes are available in public trade for all fans equally. Such a request was made only by Switzerland, which will play against Germany on Thursday.
It has already been reported that on Tuesday, in the last match of subgroup B of the world championship, the Latvian national team beat the Swiss national team, which had already secured the first place in the group, with 4:3 in extra time, entering the quarterfinals for the first time since 2018.
In the quarter-finals on Thursday, the opponents of the Latvian national team will be the Swedes, who took the second place in subgroup A, which competed in the Finnish city of Tampere.
