On the second day of the European Veteran Championships a Sub-Thursday in Slovenia, Francesco Iannone won the silver medal in the M3 kg category. 100, and it was the only medal for Italy in the M3-M4 age classes competing today.
Francesco was the protagonist of an excellent tactical test which allowed him to get rid of the first two opponents, while in the final he was unable to control the attack of the strong Georgian, who insisted on the parry and got the better of it. A pity indeed, because the Georgian had already been sanctioned twice and for Francesco the sensation of the gold around his neck now seemed one step away.
Iannone commented as follows: “I haven’t done the -100kg category since 2015 and the sensations were good. I’m sorry for the final, I paid dearly for a distraction but this motivates me to train even more for the World Cup. I thank all the Italy team for having been close to me and my family who always follows me. Now let’s think about the team competition”.
A series of fifth places leave some regret for having seen the rise in the medal table fade. To obtain them were Omar Pezzotto M3 kg.73, Pasquale Iacomino M4 kg.66, Vito Costanza M4 kg.81 and Carlo Lestani M4 kg.+100, who fought generously all reaching the final for the bronze, unfortunately without being able to conquer it . Seventh places for Giuseppe Dolza and Mihai Ciocan.
Participation of Alessandro Tuccillo Castaldo, Leonardo Rocca, Massimo Pivato, Massimo Laurenzi
Tomorrow the M1, M2 categories and all the women’s categories will compete.
