The Golden State Warriors want to keep the window open for a new championship as long as Stephen Curry is the team’s banner and for that reason they are about to complete a trade with the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul.
It only took a few days for the 38-year-old point guard to move from Phoenix to Golden State with a short-lived stay in Washington. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski’s report, the Warriors will send the Wizards shooting guard Jordan Poole and Draft picks in order to acquire CP3.
Additionally, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the trade will include the departure of Ryan Rollins to the Wizards, the 2030 first-round pick with protections and a 2027 second-round pick.
With this move, the hopes of the Los Angeles teams to sign Paul were over. The Clippers hoped to put together a trade with the Wizards and the Lakers would only sign the 12-time All-Star if he was released by the Washington team.
The 38-year-old point guard averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists in the 59 games he played last year with the Suns. In his 19th NBA season, he projects to be the organizer of the Warriors’ second unit to keep the offense going.
