The Pierre-Harvey Aid Fund Honors Athletes and Artists in Second Award Ceremony

The Pierre-Harvey Aid Fund made a second award ceremony since 2019, Friday noon in Rimouski.

The president of the organization, Mado Sirois, confirmed the return of scholarships in June and December, as in the past. Eight had been postponed by December 2022 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Six athletes and two artists were recipients this afternoon for a total of $6,000. All of them were on their first scholarship from the Fonds d’aide. Since 1988, the total amount given has reached $180,000.

“I emphasize the high quality of the files presented to us. It was candy. From a sporting, artistic and academic point of view, the files were very interesting”, underlined the president.

Arts

Laurie-Émeraude Cimon and Éloïse Gosselin received awards in the arts. The first has a bachelor’s degree in piano and practices classical singing. She took part in a Canadian competition in Toronto.

For her part, Éloïse plays the violin. In the National Finals at the Canadian Music Competitions, she scored 89%. At 17, she shares her passion for music with the next generation by teaching violin at the Conservatory of Music.

cross-country skiing

In the sports component, there are three athletes from the Mouski Cross-Country Ski Club in Nathaël Benoit, Rose Bouchard and William Gagné-Duplisea. The first took part in the Canadian championship and his performances propelled him to the Quebec development team.

She wants to keep climbing the ladder. “I want to do more. I like cross-country skiing a lot and as long as I have fun, I will continue. »

As for William, he signed excellent performances at the Canadian championship. “This scholarship is much appreciated. This summer, I’m going to train in Quebec at the Pierre-Harvey National Training Center, it will help me pay for an apartment and transportation, ”says the 17-year-old athlete.

Last winter, he took part in the five Coupe Québec races in addition to taking part in the qualifications for the world junior championships and the Canadian championships.

“My top 10 in the Canadian sprint (7th in his age group) and my 10th place overall in the Canadian championships are results from last season that make me proud. Each year, my performance improves and I feel better in my sport”, underlines the one who aims to participate in the U23 junior worlds.

Note also the scholarship of Florence Bossé, in judo. She notably excelled at the Canadian Under-16 Championship.

The athlete in artistic swimming who particularly distinguished herself at the last Quebec Games in Rivière-du-Loup, Alexia Jean, is also a scholarship recipient. She also stood out during the Quebec championships. In both places, she won several medals, including two gold in Rivière-du-Loup. She is the athlete in her age group who dominated her category in Quebec. Not surprisingly, then, that she is part of the Quebec team.

“It’s exceptional,” she said. I put in a lot of effort and the results are there,” said the woman who will once again take part in the summer finals of the Quebec Games in Rimouski at the end of July.

In Rivière-du-Loup last March, she deserved the honor of being the flag bearer for Eastern Quebec during the closing ceremony.

Samuelle Tremblay

Finally, Cyclones speed skater Samuelle Tremblay saw her efforts rewarded with this scholarship. She won two team gold medals at the Canadian Championships.
