The Spaniard will fight for the title on London grass against Australian Alex de Minaur
MADRID, 24 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated the American Sebastian Korda 6-3, 6-4 this Saturday in the semifinals of the Queen’s tournament, in the ATP 500 category and which is played on grass in London (United Kingdom), and will now fight for the title against Australian Alex de Minaur.
Alcaraz, current number 2 in the world ranking, continues to adapt by leaps and bounds to the pitch and the British environment. With his mind set on the Wimbledon tournament, the third ‘Grand Slam’ of the year, the Murcian player defeated Korda in one hour and 23 minutes to reach his sixth final of this 2023.
Although the American broke Alcaraz’s serve as soon as the game started, it was a mirage. The man from El Palmar immediately recovered to return the ‘break’ and win the next game in white. In fact, Alcaraz enjoyed break balls in all rival service turns, so he glimpsed another key break.
Said and done, the Murcian broke him in the eighth game and then sealed the first set in his favor. Faded in his attacking moves, Korda started ahead in the second set (0-1) but gave up his service in the third turn (2-1). Showcasing mettle and variety of shots, Alcaraz consolidated his lead and picked up the pace.
With hardly any opposition, the tennis player from El Palmar maintained his services and secured the final victory. In the event for the title, they will face each other this Sunday (2:30 p.m.) with De Miñaur, the executioner of the Danish Holger Rune 6-3, 7-6(2) in the other semifinal, which lasted one hour and 40 minutes.
