Feliciano Lopez celebrates his win against Max Purcell
Feliciano Lopez is still a small power on grass, even at the blessed age of 41: The Spanish veteran won the Mallorca Championships opener against Max Purcell 6:3 and 7:5 and thus made it into the round of 16. There Lopez, who will end his career after this tournament, will meet the next Australian: Jordan Thompson, who had already beaten Richard Gasquet in two sets yesterday.

Incidentally, there was a very prominent face in the audience at the Mallorca Country Club: Rafael Nadal watched Lopez pit and celebrated the victory of his old companion.
In doubles, Lopez, who has also been tournament director at the Combined Event in Madrid for a few years, was lost alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas at the start. Defending champion Tsitsipas will enter the ATP Tour 250 event against Yannick Hanfmann tomorrow.
By the way, a singles quarter-final is already set. And it will be an all-French affair between Adrian Mannarino and Corentin Moutet, two left-handers.
