San Salvador, EFE. The mixed teams of Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico got off to a good start in badminton at the Central American and Caribbean Games, beating Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, respectively, on the first day.
At the El Polvorín Sports Complex, in San Salvador, the Guatemalans defeated the Ticos 5-0 in two games that they dominated without much difficulty.
Diana Corleto and Jonathan Solís beat the Costa Rican duo 21-3 and 21-5, while Nikté Sotomayor, the first woman to represent national badminton in an Olympic Games, the Tokyo 2020 Games, won without much difficulty 21- 5 and 21-8 to Cristal Villarreal.
Equally, Cristopher Martinez and Lesvin Marroquin won 21-11 and 21-11 in the doubles, and Yeison del Cid defeated Gianpiero Cavallotti 21-14 and 21-12.
The last point of the victory was awarded to Eneida Santizo and Mariana Paiz, who defeated the Costa Rican couple 21-14 and 21-10.
Mexico, meanwhile, swept the Venezuelan team 5-0 with Luis Garrido’s 21-10 and 21-13 wins over Frank Barrios and Sabrina Solís 21-9 and 21-6 against Damaris Ortiz, as well as a victory Armando Gaitán and Luis Montoya 21-8 and 21-5 against the South American couple.
The other two successes came from the work of Haramara Gaitán and Miriam Rodríguez, 21-7 and 21-13 against the Venezuelan couple, and Job Castillo and Romina Fregoso, who crushed the rival duo with 21-7 and 21-9.
The Salvadoran team also imposed conditions and beat the Dominican Republic 4-1 by overcoming the first four games and failing the last one.
