Two gold medals were won by Latvian athletes at the athletics stadium, competing as part of the European team championship – in the European Games, medals were also awarded for results in individual disciplines. Agate Caune (15:15.21) was the fastest in the 5000-meter run, while Lina Muze (62.38 m) had the longest throw in the javelin. Following the example of the Olympic champions, the Latvian men’s national team – Kristaps Gludītis, Kārlis Apsītis, Zigmārs Raimo and Francis Lācis – was the best in the 3×3 basketball tournament of the European Games.
Silver medals were won by shooter Dainis Upelnieks and climbing athlete Edvards Gruzītis, while bronze awards were won by Jolanta Tarvidas in taekwondo and Robert Akmenis in the 200-meter kayaking distance.
At the first European Games in Baku in 2015, Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Haralds Regža won gold medals for Latvia in beach volleyball, while freestyle wrestler Anastasija Grigorjeva and kayaker Aleksejs Rumyantsevs won bronze medals. Four years later, seven medals were already won in Minsk – gold for Grigorjeva and karate player Kalvi Kalniņas, silver – for sambo wrestler Viktor Reško, Lauri Strautmani and Agatai Rashmani in the team competition in shooting and the men’s 3×3 basketball team (Armands Senkans, Armands Gunters, Mārtiņš Šteinbergs and Roberts Pāže). , but Lauris Strautmanis climbed to the third highest step of the podium in the individual shooting competition, as well as javelin thrower Madara Palameika.
At the third European Games, the Latvian team was represented by 92 athletes in 16 sports.
