The Ukrainian national team, in which “Valmiera” midfielder Ivan Želizko came on the field for a change, beat their peers from France with the result 3:1 (2:1).
The French were the first to take the lead when, after 19 minutes played, Ryan Sherki sent the ball into Ukraine’s goal (0:1).
The Ukrainians managed to tie the game 13 minutes later, when Georgy Sudakov successfully executed a penalty kick (1:1). At the end of the first half, Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Sudakov has already put Ukraine in the lead, this time beating the opponent’s goalkeeper after a pass from Mihailo Mudryk (2:1).
Nine minutes before the end of regular time, the French managed to send the ball into the Ukrainian goal for the second time, but the goal was not counted due to the back. Five minutes later, the Ukrainians managed to put an end to the game, as national team captain Artyom Bondarenko scored the third goal (3:1).
In the 88th minute, Želizko entered the field, replacing the third goal scorer.
In the semi-finals, the Ukrainians will face the Spanish footballers, who won over Switzerland in extra time on Saturday.
In the final quarter-final, English footballers defeated Portugal 1:0 (1:0). The only goal in the match was scored in the 34th minute, when Antony Gordon beat the opponent’s goalkeeper after Morgan Gibbs-White. The English will meet Israel in the semi-finals, which defeated Georgia 4-3 in the quarter-finals a day before in a shootout.
