Tony Wells opened the doors of his house, that place in the middle of the Tijuana-Rosarito highway that attracts the attention of travelers because it looks like something out of a book on castles and dragons, or perhaps vampires.
Follow El Sol de Tijuana through its halls, and share the story of its creation.
“My art is something that has a lot of mystical things: mythology, churches and religions. I want to cover many parts of religion and put them here; angels, gods, I have Greek gods, warriors, all the things that are here refer to art, ”he says in welcoming him.

His interest in art and history comes from traveling the world with his wife, a time that left him with experiences that he wants to share today.
“I thought it was fascinating and beautiful, I told myself that someday I would find the time or the day to do it. All the things I’ve learned from history, or the cathedrals and churches I’ve been to, all those things I’ve heard and seen. I wanted to build something that was amazing and creative,” he expressed.
This is how he arrived in Mexico and wondered if it would be the place for his dream.
“Mexico is the country where you are free to express your art,” he says.
He then decided with his wife to build facing the ocean something never seen before in a single building.
“Would Latino people appreciate it? I didn’t really know it, but I was struck by the love and gratitude they gave me, and for all of it I decided to build something strong, ”he mentioned.
So strong that it was popularly baptized as “The House of the Devil”.
But that figure on top of the building is not the representation of some demonic character, Tony assures a little annoyed.
“The truth is that I did not understand it and I did not like it personally, I am very far from the devil (…) It is 100 percent not satanic. I believe in love, in history, in art, I don’t know where they get that from, ”he says.
Javier, an artist who has collaborated with Tony to create this place, explains that the figure is more mythological than satanic.
“Many believe that the face in front is the devil, but it is Pan, the son that Hermes had with a Nymph called Dryopre, it is mythological,” he explained.
the tour
A Medusa sculpture welcomes visitors, the windows display images of Roman and Greek gods.
Advancing, Tony finds some monks accompanied by warrior angels, part of the guardians of the site, and walks to the bottom of the building.
“This room is very special to me, I have different rosaries and chains from various churches that I have brought from various parts of the world,” he says.
But only special guests, capable of enjoying that Gothic style, can sleep here, he says.
Further on come chandeliers from Italy and France, then another room, but before that various antique mirrors.
“It comes from a castle in Spain. This is a castle gate, it’s very old and has a lot of history, it means a lot to me,” Tony says before moving on to another room.
“It is a place to relax. The red, that color has something that calms you down, ”she expresses.
Before concluding, a space opens with different lights, gold lamps and more mirrors from different parts of the world and historical periods.
“The lights and mirrors push you to create more, it is one of my favorite rooms. This mirror was hand sculpted, it’s Italian and it’s from the late 1800’s. When I saw it I knew I had to buy it and find the perfect place for it. They said it was Elvis Presley’s furniture. Also these two lights and the cabinet were his, I loved it. Thank you Elvis,” Tony mentions.

Lastly, a 40 foot dragon, another guardian. “Don’t mess with him, he’s the one who protects,” says the histrionic host.
