The 18th edition of the Orleans tennis tournament, which will take place from September 24 to October 1, has nothing to do with the previous ones. Overview of the changes made.
“We are at the maximum of what we can do. This is why we will have to think of something else, differently”. The director of the Orleans Open predicted it in 2022. His tournament had to change for him to continue. With a new name, a new location and the help of the city council, the event now has a more sustainable and bright future.
New name, new room
The Orleans tournament will not take place at the Palais des sports, as usual, but within the CO’Met. And who says change of place, says change of name. The Orléans Open now gives way to the CO’Met Orléans Open. “We needed to have a larger budget, so we had to have partners who show off. It is normal that we insist on the place. It’s also a way to direct future audiences.” explains Didier Gérard, the tournament director.
This brand new tool opens up more possibilities to the public and organizers. Already, the gauge of spectators should double since the Arena can accommodate up to 5600. As for prices, a slight increase is announced. “The ticket office has not increased since the start and there we increased it by one or two euros. Nothing mean”, he smiles. New animations are also planned, such as “an urban tennis court for children on the forecourt, adds Didier Gérard. Before, we couldn’t do it because we were in the very center”.
Financial support from the City of Orléans
This change of scenery comes at a cost. On May 25, the city council validated the award of a contract of 796,000 euros to the company that holds the exclusive right to the Orleans tournament, Europe Promotion Services. A contract signed for four years which marks the beginning of a new era. “We go from a 2CV to a Ferrari, compares the sports assistant, Thomas Renault. We arrive in another dimension”. This first edition at the CO’Met, scheduled from September 25 to October 1, promises to be spectacular.
