While the high school baseball city tournament is crowded with private powerhouses, the metropolitan high school also challenges with the hope of winning one match. Of these, Yukigaya High School (Ota Ward), who participated in the summer Koshien as a representative of East Tokyo for the last time as a metropolitan high school 20 years ago, will face the challenge of “thinking about baseball for themselves”.

July 5th. With the first match approaching on the 10th, the players at Yukigaya High shared the ground with the soccer club and practiced hard. The content of practice varies for each player, such as checking the knocking and pitching form, repeating bunts, and hitting.

Hiroki Kawahara (17), captain of the team, said, “Facing your weaknesses and deciding what to practice on your own,” said Hiroki Kawahara. Each person thinks “what is lacking in me now” and assembles a practice menu. Takuma Misono (18), an ace pitcher who is attracting attention as a professional with a fastball that can reach up to 140 kilometers per hour, spent time on strength training, saying, “I’m not good at controlling because I don’t have enough core.”

Both belonged to a strong team in junior high school. There were many friends who went to famous private schools around him, but he chose Yukigaya High. “I wanted to play baseball by thinking for myself,” said Captain Kawahara.

The ground can only be used three days a week. In order to concentrate and practice in a limited environment, he began to think about how to use his time. Players sometimes suggest training methods to the coach.

Manager Date says, “Think about baseball for yourself.”

Manager Shoji Date (47), who leads such a team, is a former professional baseball player. He was active as a pitcher in the Hanshin Tigers, etc., but retired in 2006 after being notified that he was out of force. After that, he went back to college, obtained a teacher’s license, and is now on the path of a teacher.

He himself spent hard days immersed in baseball at a powerful private high school and ran up to the professional level. However, he says that he is careful not to impose his ideas on him when instructing. “What do you need to do to become good?

Director Date has high hopes for his student’s efforts, saying, “I want to see their lively appearances for as long as possible, one battle at a time.” (Natsuko Kunno)
