Swimming World Championships, Beck first in the 10 kilometers

German swimmer Leonie Beckformer European champion in distance, conquered in Fukuoka, Japan, the world title in the 10 km in open water. After more than two hours of effort, Beck (26 years old, who trains in Ostia with Fabrizio Antonelli, Paltrinieri’s coach) produced an acceleration in the last hundred meters clearly overtaking the Australian Chelsea Gubecka. The young American Katie Grimes, 17, took third place, beating the Dutch Sharon van Rouwendaal, reigning world champion, in a photo finish. Sixth Ginevra Taddeucci and tenth Giulia Gabrielleschi. The three medalists validate their qualification for next year’s Paris Olympic Games.
