In Monaco, Klaver would actually meet the American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in the 400 meters. The American is Olympic champion in the 400 meters hurdles – and in that part Femke Bol’s great rival.
But at the World Cup in August, McLaughlin-Levrone wants to take action in the 400 meters. In Monaco she would also run that distance, but she withdrew at the last minute with knee problems.
Last week, Klaver dived a 400 meters under 50 seconds for the first time in her career at Diamond League games in Chorzow, Poland. With a personal best of 49.81, she was the second Dutch person to ever break the magic barrier. Then Kaczmarek also became first.
Femke Bol holds the Dutch outdoor record with 49.44.

Nick Smidt finished sixth in the prestigious race in Monaco in the 400 meters hurdles (48.57). The Norwegian Karsten Warholm took the win at this distance.
Two-time European and world champion and reigning Olympic champion Warholm also triumphed in Oslo and Stockholm. In Monaco he ran for the first time this year against Alison dos Santos, who won World Cup gold last year in a final in which Warholm collapsed and finished seventh.
The Brazilian ran his best time of the season with 47.66, but still conceded to Warholm (46.51).
The Dutch top talent Niels Laros (18) ran a B competition in the 800 meters in Monaco. He asserted himself in this with first place (1.44.78). The Dutchmen Ryan Clarke (third), Bram Buigel (seventh) and Kevin Waimana Viezee (eighth) also participated in this race.
Third world record Kipyegon
Faith Kipyegon smashed the world record of Sifan Hassan (4.07.64) on the mile. The Dutch ran almost five seconds slower in Monaco four years ago.
