The Latvians, who previously qualified, lost 13:14 to the German team “Düsseldorf ZOOS”, in which three Japanese players are involved, in the quarter-finals.
Aleksa Gulbe, Luīze Šepte, Ketija Vihmane and Marta Mishčenko play in the Latvian team ranked 13th. Vihmane scored five points and Gulbe scored four points.
In the group round, Latvian basketball players defeated the USA team (12:11) and lost to the Spanish team (11:21) on Wednesday. The Latvians entered the main tournament after two victories in the qualification, where they defeated Turkey (19:17) and Austria (15:12).
The Women’s World Series has 23 stages in the season, where basketball players also fight for rating points, which determine the chances of going to the Paris Olympic Games and qualifying tournaments.
At the Paris Olympic Games, only eight national teams will compete in 3×3 basketball in men’s and women’s competition.
The three teams that will go to Paris will be determined in the qualification based on the country’s place in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3×3 ranking, where the individual rating points of each country’s 25 best players in FIBA-approved tournaments will be added up to November 1. Five more Olympic teams for men and women will be determined in 2024 in three qualifying tournaments.
In the national ranking in 3×3 basketball in men’s competition, Latvia occupies the 9th place in mid-July, whereas the women are in the 28th position. In classical basketball, Latvians no longer have a chance to become participants in the Paris Olympic tournament, but there are still options in the 3×3 version.
The Paris Olympic Games in 2024 will be held from July 26 to August 11.
