Dennis Schröder has lowered the tone with which he had analyzed the German team and the possible participation of Maxi Kleber in the World Cup that begins at the end of August. The now point guard for the Toronto Raptors criticized his German teammate for not committing to the last Eurobasket with these words:
«Maxi was not there last year. If you didn’t commit, that being the message that really got through to all of us, then you won’t be there next year either,” he said without hesitation.
His words, as is logical, did not sit well with both the Dallas Mavericks player and within Germany; So much so that Schröder has apologized to his partner through a statement published on the website of the German Basketball Federation.
«All this was never something personal against Maxi Kleber on my part. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a direct guy and I always assume that the person I am talking to understands what I mean by what I say, but once again I have been shown that this is not always the case. I still appreciate him and of course I respect him and his career. I hope you will accept my apologies », he concludes.
