Centro Athletes Shine at 57th Final of the Quebec Games in Rimouski

QUEBEC GAMES. During the second day of competition of the 57th Final of the Quebec Games in Rimouski, the athletes from Centro continued to offer remarkable performances.

In beach volleyball, the men’s and women’s teams have signed a flawless run that allows them to position themselves advantageously for the elimination round. The four representatives of the region are currently considered the favorites of the competition. The finals will be played at the end of the day on Monday.

In women’s basketball, despite a more difficult first half, the Centroise athletes showed perseverance to win 73 to 47. In the victory, Élodie Fréchette (Princeville) was a key player thanks to her collection of 19 points in the second half only. The team will continue its tournament against Est-du-Québec in the semi-finals on Monday.

In men’s baseball, the Centricois caused the upset of the tournament by winning their three round robin games, including wins against Chaudière-Appalaches 6-2 and against Côte-Nord with a score of 16-0. They will take part in the quarter-final match on Monday.

In triathlon, Emery Gaudreault (Drummondville) finished fourth in the individual time trial for 14-15 year olds. Ludovic Long (Victoriaville) finished fifth in the 16-17 age group. Among the girls, Sarah-Maude Lévesque (Drummondville) had some difficulty during the swimming portion, but managed to move up the rankings afterwards to take sixth place in the 16-17 age group. The team event is held on Monday.

In the swimming events, Florence Dumaine (Drummondville) qualified for the A finals in the 100 butterfly while improving her personal best. She finally finished fourth in the girls 12-14 competition. As for Xavier Nault (Victoriaville), his ninth place in the 400 meter medley also represents a performance to be commended. By achieving a personal best, he demonstrates a very commendable progression.

Finally, the athletes of the athletics competitions will take part in the finals on Monday. The flag bearer of the delegation, Rosalie Matte (Saint-Germain-de-Grantham) as well as Gabriel Charest (Wickham) and Mathis Gagné (Drummondville) represents chances of medals for the delegation. They will be discus throwing events, javelin throwing events and qualifications for the women’s and men’s 4 x 100 meter relay.
