Hugo Gaston is increasingly making fun of his colleagues.

Frenchman Hugo Gaston just can’t help it. The current No. 92 in the ATP ranking has been noticed several times this season for grossly unsportsmanlike behavior and has therefore already been sanctioned by the players’ association. His action at the Masters tournament in Madrid was the last straw when the left-hander dropped a second ball on the ground in a hopeless position in the second round match against Croatian Borna Coric in order to generate a replay point. Because of the volume of his violations, he was fined €144,000 at the time, half of which was suspended on probation for the next 12 months.

This probation now seems to wobble badly. At the ATP Challenger tournament in Verona, Italy, the Frenchman, who, due to his playing style with a tendency to exaggerate stop balls, should not be very far in the favor of his colleagues, made the next major misstep. In his opening game he met Argentinian Marco Trungelliti as No. 2 of the tournament and won the first round. After the 22-year-old slipped more and more onto the loser road from this point on, Gaston saw a scandal at the score of 2:5 and 0:40 in the decisive set. For no apparent reason, such as injury, he went to the net to shake hands with his 33-year-old opponent. He reacted briefly in amazement, but then celebrated his victory.

Gaston’s behavior was not well received in the global community and was severely criticized by many tennis fans on social media. It remains exciting how the ATP will react to Gaston’s behavior.
