“The demand for coach travel has skyrocketed in recent months, not only because of World Youth Day, but also because of the exponential growth of tourism in Portugal,” said the general director of FlixBus for Spain and Portugal, Pablo Pastega.
The manager added that, taking into account the number of pilgrims expected for the event – around 1.5 million – this event will mean “a great challenge, not for all road passenger transport operators, but for all entities involved.
On July 6, FlixBus launched a new Madrid-Talavera-Cáceres-Badajoz-Lisboa line with its new partner, the Extremaduran company Euro Star Bus, an SME based in Coria (Cáceres). It has also created a new night line that connects Coruña, Santiago and Vigo with Fátima and Lisbon,
The company defends that WYD has aroused “enormous interest in Spain”, with an increase of around 100% in the number of queries on the FlixBus website about travel possibilities between Madrid and Lisbon for that week, with more than 54% growth for the routes between Seville and Lisbon.
