Doncic will be the captain of Slovenia in the World Cup

The basketball player and star of the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic, was named as the captain of the Slovenian team for the World Cup that will be held next August in Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.

The information was released by the technical director of the European team, Aleksandar Sekulic, who explained that they are excited to have this figure.

“It is an honor for me. The coach (Aleksandar Sekulic) and the rest of the players made the decision. It is not a new role for me, in the dressing room of the national team and in Dallas I am a vocal leader,” Doncic said after hearing the news.

The decision to place Doncic as captain is due to the injury of Edo Muric, who will not be able to be present at the World Cup.

“I don’t have a way to prepare for this. It only comes with time, it cannot be learned. If you have it, you have it”, added the Slovenian.

“I feel better this year and it can also be seen. I have to give credit to the national team’s physical trainer (…) I’m not thinking about the Mavericks right now, but they are on the right path, ”he concluded.

Slovenia is in Group F with the teams of Venezuela, Georgia and Cape Verde. His debut is scheduled for August 26 in the Japanese city of Okinawa against the Creoles.
