The Port of Motril increases cruise tourism by 290% in 2023 |

The president of the Motril Port Authority (Spain), José García Fuentes, has analyzed the 2023 cruise season, in which he is reaping good results thanks to his commercial investment in recent years. So, the enclosure is growing in terms of number of passengers, stopovers, capacity of the ships and new additions.

In fact, the number of cruise calls has gone from 18 in 2022 to 28 in this year’s season, which indicates an increase of 55.5%, being vessels with greater capacity. And it is that, cruises with capacity for more than 2,000 cruise passengers have increased by 400%, with which 35.71% of the total calls correspond to large capacity ships.

As a result, the number of cruise passengers has risen to 35,320, compared to the 17,000 passengers of the best historical data recorded in the port, which represents an increase of 290% compared to the 9,059 tourists last year.

Likewise, the Andalusian enclave has signed collaboration agreements with new shipping companies, so that 10 of the 28 calls are for vessels visiting the port facilities for the first time, while maintaining loyalty, since 55% of the Shipping companies repeat call in 2023.

Another detail to take into account is that, this Tuesday, July 25, the Port Authority has received the cruise ship ‘Seven Seas Mariner’, with capacity for 696 passengers and a crew of 459, and on July 28 it will host the ‘Norwegian Getaway’, with capacity for 4,028 passengers and 1,595 crew members, one of the largest that have arrived at the Motrileña dock.

On the other hand, the Port of Motril has recently awarded Rialsa Obras the execution of the project for the construction of a roundabout linking the ZAL of the enclave with the N-347 GR national highway. So, the construction company from Malaga will be in charge of the works that will facilitate the traffic and access of heavy vehicles to the area of ​​Motril logistics activities for an amount of 258,305.16 euros and with an execution period of two and a half months.
