The false suspense ended this Saturday. As expected, Ousmane Dembélé has signed up with Paris Saint-Germain for the next five seasons, i.e. until June 2028. Having become the ninth recruit from the Ile-de-France region of the off-season, the French attacking midfielder has been transferred to the French capital for 50 million euros, the amount of the release clause included in his commitment with FC Barcelona.
Seven trophies with Barça
This return to France, seven years after his departure from Stade Rennais for Borussia Dortmund, marks a turning point in the career of the 2018 world champion after 185 games played in all competitions with the Blaugrana, for 40 goals and 43 assists. An arrival for which reacted the Parisian president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and his teammate at the Blues, Kylian Mbappé.
Before starting a new cycle with the reigning French champion, opposed Saturday evening to Lorient during the 1st day of Ligue 1, the 26-year-old posted on his page Instagram a farewell message for Barça, Catalans with whom Ousmane Dembélé will have won seven trophies – three Spanish league titles (2018, 2019, 2023), two King’s Cups (2018, 2021), two Spanish Supercups (2019, 2023) – but never the Champions League.
“It was a pride and an honor”
“As most of you already know, I decided to embark on a new challenge. But I didn’t want to leave without first thanking all the people in Barcelona who have supported me all these years: colleagues, coaches, club employees and managers. I grew up as a footballer and as a person and it was a pride and an honor to wear the blaugrana shirt. Without a doubt, I take away a lot of memories that will always remain in my heart.”
