The day after his spectacular transfer, Harry Kane played for FC Bayern in the Supercup. The striker couldn’t prevent the defeat against league rival Leipzig after being substituted on at a score of 0:2 – even if he tried his best.

The time had come in the 64th minute: Harry Kane made his first appearance for FC Bayern. In the game for the DFL Supercup against RB Leipzig (0:3, half-time score 0:2) on Saturday evening, coach Thomas Tuchel substituted the new star striker for the young attacker Mathys Tel. The fans at the Munich stadium cheered, many of them wearing jerseys with Kane’s number nine. They enthusiastically pulled out their smartphones and shouted: “Harry Kane, Harry Kane!” And the stadium announcer was happy: “Magic moment!”

Kane had been at the office of the German record champions until the early hours of Friday to sign the contract and had trained with the team for the first time on Saturday morning. In agreement with Tuchel, he was only to be used very briefly against Leipzig. FC Bayern wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “A small step onto the Allianz Arena lawn, a special step for Harry Kane – debut in the new living room.”

After coming on as a substitute when the score was 2-0, the 30-year-old, for whom Bayern paid Tottenham Hotspur at least EUR 100 million, immediately looked for gaps in the Leipzig defence. But just two minutes after the change of players, there was a penalty for the Leipzig team following a corner kick. Kane stood in disbelief in front of referee Bastian Dankert, but it was no use. The decision was made, Dani Olmo scored his third goal of the evening with a penalty – 3:0.

Kane clapped his hands and signaled to his new colleagues: Let’s go! Kane offered himself, but initially could hardly get the ball, not even after a corner kick from Joshua Kimmich when he jumped up. In a duel with RB professional Nicolas Seiwald, he came a little too late to win the ball. When Kane got the ball a little later in the penalty area, he failed to try to put it down in the middle. Bayern did little in the final stages, Kane didn’t get any assists. Goalkeeper Sven Ulreich saved Munich from the 0:4. Kane tried to build up pressure on Leipzig with sprints until the end, but they routinely played the 3-0 down.

And so Bayern’s record purchase missed the first title with his club. After the final whistle, Kane clapped hands with the referee, his teammates and some Leipzigers and went to the stadium stands to thank the spectators for their support with a short clapping.

Kane should have his first assignment in the Bundesliga next Friday evening: his Bayern Munich team will open the season with the game at Werder Bremen.
