From US to Italy: A Basketball Journey with Viola Reggio Calabria

Lots of US experience. In 2015 he travels to New Jersey, with Oradell for two seasons, where Bergen Catholic High School is located.
In 2017 he signed at Monroe College, in the state of New York, then, in 2019 he moved to Eastern Michigan University, a team active in the west of the Mid-American Conference (NCAA Division I).
Only one year as a professional in Italy, in B at Orlandina and today, an intriguing opportunity for growth in Reggio Calabria to defend the colors of Viola basketball.
“It is an honor to be part of a company like Viola Reggio Calabria, such a historic square.
With the Coach, Federico Cigarini, there is a good bond, we discussed and talked a lot during my first year as a professional in Italy, last season in Capo D’Orlando. We talked a lot about how to train, about the various methodologies and I’ve always liked him both as a person and for his way of training.
I trust the team he is building a lot.
I am sure that the role I will be able to fill will be, according to his ideas, important.
I hope it will be an excellent year”.
In this regard, which coach is Coach Cigarini in your opinion?
“Very very energetic. He really puts his all into it always, regardless of situations both during positive and negative times. He is a coach who has the fact, not to be underestimated, of having played, and this helps.
It is true that basketball has changed over the years, but it is also fair to consider that he is able to see certain situations with the right eye of someone who knows our basketball very well, even the one played”.
What did your dad Gus say about your choice?
“He is happy but at the same time he has always said that it must be me, satisfied with the choices made”.
What championship will it be?
“Difficult but we are ready for the challenge. We hope to have a very united team because in the end with long championships, like ours, it is essential to have a united team that fights all the way.
It will be a championship, between the “quotes” of “Vendetta”, sporting of course, we are very hungry for victories.
Personally, I’ve only done a year as a pro so I’m still young, not that experienced, so I hope it’s a championship on the runway for me and the black-orange colours.
There are excellent teams, such as Ragusa, Orlandina, Milazzo and Piazza Armerina. We will never give up.”
A memory of your US experience?
“I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it” again. It really was a dream that so many kids would like to live and would do anything to achieve”. I consider myself very lucky, I was in the USA from 15 to 22 years old: I would do it again, it’s a very different basketball world, but it was formative and beautiful”.
