Spain adds its first eight Paralympic cycling medals at the Rotterdam European

The Spanish Paralympic cycling team won eight medals this Friday on the first day of the European Championship in Rotterdam (Netherlands), including three gold medals by Ricardo Ten (C1), Joan Reinoso (T2) and Sergio Club (H1).

Spain excelled in the time trials. After proclaiming himself world champion a week ago in Glasgow, Ricardo Ten also climbed to the top of the continental podium. The laureate Spanish cyclist was ahead of the Portuguese Alexandre Vieira and the Austrian Andreas Zirkl.

In C2, Maurice Eckhard took the bronze medal after being third in the individual time trial, 52 seconds behind the champion, Frenchman Alexandre Leauté. For his part, in C3, Eduardo Santas was two seconds behind the first position of German Mathias Schindler, in the fight reaching the finish line, and, in C4, Damián Ramos was bronze, one second behind silver.

In addition, in tricycles, Joan Reinoso, world champion in Cascais 2021, repeated the title in T2 ahead of the Austrian Wolfgang Steinbichler and the Czech Jindrich Masin. In T1, Gonzalo García Abella from Madrid added a new silver to his record.

Meanwhile, in handbike, Sergio Garrote (H2), also champion in Glasgow, did not disappoint, winning ahead of Frenchman Florian Jouanny by 21 seconds and Italian Luca Mazzone by 42.

On the other hand, the tandem opened the competition at the Rotterdam circuit. The duo formed by Christian bengge and Eloy Teruel was bronze after setting a time of 18:03, 48 seconds behind the gold of the Dutch duo Bangma/Bos.
