John Isner will retire from professional tennis after playing at the US Open, he announced on Wednesday.

Isner will end a career that included a Grand Slam semi-final and victory in the longest match in sports history.
“This transition won’t be easy, but I look forward to every second with my amazing family,” the nearly seven-foot American wrote in a social media post.
“It’s time to put on the sneakers one last time,” added the 38-year-old, referring to the last major tournament of the year, which will begin Monday in New York.
Isner reached a career-high eighth in 2018 shortly after advancing to the semi-finals at Wimbledon.
The American has won 16 singles titles and had over 14,000 aces, which is an ATP Tour record. Isner had 113 — a single-match record — in his Wimbledon win over Nicolas Mahut in 2010. The clash lasted 11 hours and five minutes over three days and ended 70- 68 in the fifth set.
Isner was born in North Carolina and played tennis at the University of Georgia before turning pro in 2007.
