Canada Announces Official Roster for World Cup, Aims to Qualify for Olympic Games

A few hours before the start of the World Cup, Canada has finally made the official list of 12 players who will participate in the tournament. This will be made up of Kyle Alexander, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, RJ Barrett, Trae Bell-Haynes, Dillon Brooks, Luguentz Dort, Zach Edey, Melvin Ejim, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kelly Olynyk, Dwight Powell and Phil Scrubb, who will try to bring their own as far as possible and at least qualify for the Olympic Games.

“With this list, we have shaped a group of players who are convinced that they can fight with any team in the world,” said Jordi Fernández, coach. “I know that every time we take to the track we will honorably represent Canada, and I hope the fans show them the appreciation and support they deserve. We have the opportunity to do something very special for the country.”

From the previous 18-man roster, the Americans have lost Jamal Murray and Cory Joseph to injury, while Oshae Brisett also had to resign to ensure he arrives in good physical condition for the next regular season. In addition, Kevin Pangos, Kassius Robertson and Thomas Scrubb have been left out, who have failed to make the final cut.

The team will debut tomorrow against France, in a clash that seems called to determine the first place in group H. Latvia and Lebanon are also part of the same team, which a priori start a couple of steps behind and will have to surprise if they want to be in the round of 16.
