Jan Kovařík’s Two Goals Lead Bohemians Praha to Victory Against Hradec Králové

On Sunday against Hradec Králové, he could easily score three goals. In the end, he didn’t have to be so sorry. Thanks to Jan Kovařík’s two goals, the Kangaroos scored their first win in Ďolíček since April.

“I would divide the view of Honza Matoušek into two parts. He played great in the first half, keeping the defense busy, creating situations for other players as well. He also did an excellent job of putting pressure on the defenders. I don’t blame him for a single chance in the first half, but I did in the second half. The finish was uninterested, lax, there was no pressure on him,” said Bohemians Praha coach Jaroslav Veselý.

During the first half, the 32-year-old forward went alone to the goalkeeper Pavol Bajza, who ran against him all the way to the border of the penalty area. Matoušek tried to shoot him in vain. In a few moments, he robbed the lingering Bajza of the ball, but was unable to hit the open goal as he fell. After the break, he shot over on a separate escape.

“Bajza did it great at the first chance, Honza didn’t have much time. The only option was to shoot the ball between the legs. And in the situation where he took the ball from Bajz, he was under pressure. Overall, we spend a longer time with attackers. They don’t hit the goal in the fall even in big chances. I tell them: try to move it, at least hit the area of the goal,” said Veselý, who was very happy for the triumph over Hradec Králové. His team broke the misery at home, won at Botic for the first time since the end of April.

“We needed this. It was our most successful performance in recent times, we were better for most of the match, the goal difference should have been much higher. Unfortunately, we let our opponents breathe. After Hradec’s equalizing goal, I was afraid that we would not lose. But the boys reacted brilliantly,” praised Veselý.

After a miserable performance a week ago in České Budějovice (0:3), he made five changes in the starting line-up, which brought a positive impact. Just the inclusion of the two-goal hero Kovařík. “I made it clear to the boys after Budějovice what they demonstrated there. They could tell. There hasn’t been a weak individual performance in a long time. Sure, the equalizing goal goes to Kadlec, but also a little behind me. He was having cramps, I should have replaced him two minutes earlier,” Veselý added.
