Aprilia became the fastest again in the Catalunya MotoGP FP2. Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales could finish 1-2, while Marc Marquez 19th.
At the Catalunya Circuit, Barcelona, Friday (1/9/2023), the second session of the Catalunya MotoGP 2023 practice was intense. At the start of the session, Honda rider Nakagami had to get off his motorbike due to a problem.
Pecco Bagnaia, Joan Mir and Marc Marquez had difficulties in FP2. His position had become the most distended. Bagnaia then took off, and was able to seize the fastest time.
Then, Maverick Vinales also slipped. Aprilia’s ride almost crashed at Turn 13, before Raul Fernandez finally replaced his motorbike.
Vinales then shot his way to the top spot, entering half time in FP2. The former Yamaha had outperformed Bagnaia, Di Giannantonio and Aleix Espargaro.
Entering the final minutes of FP2, Espargaro was able to shoot to the top. He set a record time of 1 minute 38.686 seconds at the Catalunya Circuit. That time made him the fastest.
Espargaro was followed by Vinales and Bagnaia in second and third place. While Johann Zarco had to settle for fourth, and Brad Binder in fifth.
Marquez, who is struggling, only ranks 19th, under Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli. This result made Marquez fail to qualify directly for Q2.
