“Kokoro: in the heart of things”. This is the project of the amateur sports association La brigata degli unicorni, which manages an equestrian center in Pollenza, and which won the “Community civic spaces” tender, an initiative promoted by the Department for Youth Policies and the Universal Civil Service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in collaboration with Sport e Salute spa, for the promotion of sport and correct lifestyles.
The call provides for support for projects proposed by amateur sports associations and clubs in partnership with other players in the area (Municipality of Pollenza, Asd Judo Club Urbisaglia, Magical Pet – Interventions Assisted with Animals and Social Agricultural Company La casa di Stefano) for the realization of youth aggregation activities, carried out within civic community spaces, aimed at young people aged 14 to 34, with particular attention to the categories most at risk of marginalization, such as young people in the Nett condition (i.e. young people who do not study and are not looking for work), young people with disabilities of all kinds, young people belonging to particularly disadvantaged groups or coming from territories characterized by forms of widespread cultural discomfort. The project presented by the Asd La brigade of unicorns provides for the organization of riding courses and non-verbal communication with the horse, pet therapy and activities with the dog, approach to judo (as a tool to combat bullying), self-defense for girls and expressive art activities and mental coaching. All activities are aimed at boys and girls aged 14 to 34 and are totally free. The “strong point” of the project proposal is the possibility of participation of boys and girls with disabilities of all kinds, with the aim that they can be constantly supported by able-bodied peers.
«In this regard, the design purpose becomes twofold – explains the municipal administration – Sport is accompanying the transformations of our society and its evolution, increasingly assuming a position of reference, also resulting in an important agent of inclusion, integration, participation in community life, acceptance of differences and limits. In this sense, inclusive sport as a partner of individuals with intellectual and relational disabilities can be compared to a protected space in which it is possible to compare one’s fears, anxieties, frustrations and mistakes with other people, but also to discover interests, objectives and new goals . It is a “terrain” that provides significant stimuli for the acquisition of a greater ability to listen and reflect, as well as a useful tool for getting out of the risky circuits of isolation, being able to enhance one’s skills in sharing and developing self-confidence and in the others, therefore an effective instrument of cohesion and cultural growth».
