He is the great hope in German basketball. He was discovered at the age of eleven and at just 19, Dennis Schröder made the leap from Braunschweig to the NBA. It was a sad occasion that made him realize his dream. When he was 16 years old, his father died. On his deathbed he promised his father that he would make it into the American professional league NBA.

“I knew that now I had to change something. And I knew that I had to work very hard to keep the promise,” said the basketball star to “stern.de”. Until then, he didn’t take his career too seriously. He wasn’t too particular about the training times. Sometimes he came whenever he wanted. But that changed.

But the first year in America was anything but easy. He received support primarily from his family, as he revealed on “stern tv”: “My big sister and my niece came to Atlanta with me at the beginning. They supported me off the field, cooked food and did laundry.” He also received prominent support from Dirk Nowitzki. When Schröder met the Dallas Mavericks with the Atalanta Hawks, Nowitzki congratulated him on his performance. After his time with the LA Lakers, he will be heading to Canada to join the Toronto Raptors from the new season in October 2023. The DBB also recognized the talent of the Braunschweig native. He has been dribbling for the German national basketball team since 2014.

The athlete also has completely different talents. His mother owned a hairdressing salon in Braunschweig for a long time. Now his older sister Awa runs him. There, Schröder occasionally takes over the men’s haircuts. “He really enjoys it,” his mother told “Welt.” Family is generally very important to the basketball star. The basketball high-flyer married his great love, as he calls his partner Ellen Ziolo, in 2019. The couple has three children. Both report about their family life on their YouTube channels.
