The postponed match of the 1st round of the MOL Cup between the home side SK Petřín Plzeň and Mariánské Lázně was decided by the visiting Kapolka’s penalty in the 49th minute. Goalkeeper Suchý caught it at first, but the ball went straight under the executor’s feet.

Plzeňský Petřín was better, after conceding a goal, he threw away one chance after another, the visiting goalkeeper Hinterholzinger pulled off several great saves, and Viktoria Mariánské Lázně was happy about the progress, when the only goal of the match was scored by Kapolka, who scored a penalty shot by his goalkeeper Suchý.
“It’s up to him… if you lose and you’re no worse. But it happens to us quite often. It’s all the more regrettable today that so many people came to cheer us on,” Petřín coach Radek Vodrážka regretted regarding the great visit. 670 paying spectators came and there were a lot of children in the audience, it was played in a great atmosphere.

The home team lacked only one thing to be satisfied – victory, but it was grabbed by the bravely fighting guests from Mariánské Lázně. “Petřín had more chances than us. But for the enormous dedication and enormous effort, we deserved to advance a little more,” Vodrážk’s counterpart Aleš Zach, on the other hand, rejoiced. Now he wants to go to the next round of Prague Bohemians, who he has been a fan of since he was young.
Petřín failed especially in the ending. “We’ve been struggling with it for a long time, we’re not scoring goals. But I haven’t seen what Hinterholzinger caught today. Maybe three times the ball flew into the wing and he was always there,” the coach of Pilsen Petřín shook his head after the match and regretted the wasted first half. The same opponents will now meet in the division, this time it will be played on Saturday from 10:15 a.m. in Mariánské Lázně.
“Petřín has great quality, the team has been together for a long time, and they added experienced players in the summer. I still see them as the biggest favorite to advance to the third league,” added Zach, despite the fact that division group A is currently led by his wards and he won in Petřín even though some of the mainstays did not play.
REPORTS FROM THE DIVISION: Doubravka takes a point from Hořovice, Petřín also drew at home
“I promised the guys who were on the bench or didn’t play that much in the division on Saturday that they would get an opportunity. We believe they have the same quality, but seventeen of us cannot play. And they confirmed it, they fought for a place in the lineup,” the coach of Mariánská Lázně Viktoria refused to spare some players in view of Saturday’s divisional match against the same opponent. “We didn’t want to speculate or use tactics,” added Aleš Zach.
His counterpart from Petrin spoke in a similar vein, although he too made some changes in the lineup. “I’m interested in Saturday only now. I believe that Mariánky cannot beat us twice in a row,” said Vodrážka with a smile on his face. “It will be a completely different match,” added coach Petřína, who believes in a different result.
