Rome, 14 September 2023 – Yesterday the FIJLKAM President Domenico Falcone and the General Secretary Massimiliano Benucci participated in the presentation event of Judo Academy, the project that aims to introduce the blind and visually impaired to judo and sports.
Initiative of FISPIC (Italian Paralympic Sports Federation for the visually impaired and blind) and supported by the OneSight Essilor Luxottica Italia Foundation, the target is to train high-level athletes in anticipation of the Paris 2024 Paralympics and promote judo among visually impaired and blind people. Sport that strongly contributes to increasing autonomy and safety, as well as working on the sense of balance, coordination and physical strength.
The project consists of a series of traveling sports gatherings, scheduled in Milan (October 2023), Belluno (November 2023), Pescara and Genoa (in 2024), in which we will work on the athletes’ sporting preparation and there will be demonstration Academy open to all .
The presentation at the Japanese Cultural Institute in Rome was attended by Senator Isabella Rauti, the General Secretary of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation Andrea Rendina, the FISPIC President Sandro Di Girolamo, the President Falcone and the Councilor for Social Services, Disability, Third Sector, Personal Services of the Lazio Region Massimiliano Maselli.
At the end of the meeting Sandro Di Girolamo and Domenico Falcone signed a FISPIC-FIJLKAM memorandum of understanding which provides for close collaboration between the two Federations.
Furthermore, there was a demonstration session, introduced by Silvio Tavoletta (DT Judo FISPIC), in which the Paralympic athletes Carolina Costa (2023 world champion), Dong Dong Camanni, Simone Cannizzaro and Matilde Lauria competed; together with the athletes Maria Centracchio, Lucio Tavoletta and Alessandro D’Urbano.
