André Onana Struggles to Make an Impact at Manchester United

Arriving this summer from Inter Milan, André Onana is not really convincing at the start of the season with Manchester United.

To replace David De Gea, at the end of his contract since July 1 and who surprisingly finds himself without a club after the close of the transfer market, the Red Devils have decided to bet 50 million euros on André Onana, finalist of the Ligue des Champions with Inter Milan last season. In 2022-2023, the Cameroonian goalkeeper had an impressive season with 19 clean sheets in 41 matches in all competitions.

His adventure with Manchester United does not start on the same basis since the 27-year-old goalkeeper has already conceded 10 goals in his first five Premier League matches. This Saturday, Erik Ten Hag’s men suffered the law of Brighton at home (1-3). An average start to the season in which André Onana obviously has his share of responsibility, he who has not always been impeccable with certain goals conceded.

“We would have told him to return to his goal”

Beyond his average performance, it is also his behavior that is singled out by followers. The former Inter player does not hesitate to repeat the shouting about his defense. Jamie Carragher believes that the Cameroonian is doing too much, particularly towards Harry Maguire, not at his best in recent months: “I know he’s demonstrative in matches, but yelling at the club captain during a pre-season match when you’ve been at the club for two minutes was way over the top.says the former Liverpool defender. Any player worth his salt: Keane, Vidic, Rio, Stam and I would have been told to go back to his goal. I felt like he was trying way too hard to show the fans what he was doing.

After just five days, Manchester United already have three defeats and are in a sad 13th place. All this, three days before a perilous trip to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
