Time for new heroes under the Bayer Cross!
Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen are getting ready for the future – just in time for the start of the new season in the Europa League on Thursday (6.45 p.m. / here in the live ticker) against Swedish champions BK Häcken.

From now on, oversized posters of Bayer stars Florian Wirtz (20), captain Lukas Hradecky (33), world champion Exequiel Palacios (25) as well as Robert Andrich (28) and Edmond Tapsoba (24) hang on the south facade of the BayArena.
Leverkusen is hunting for the title with XXL-Wirtz!
“We have caught a good moment to give the new generation a stage,” says sports boss Simon Rolfes (41), “these players are exemplary for the development and path of the club.” At Palacios the slogan is: the poster: “World champions under the cross.”

After almost 20 years, Wirtz and Co. symbolically take the places of stars Emerson (47), Jorginho (59), Michael Ballack (46), Bernd Schneider (49) and Ulf Kirsten (57) to lead the club to represent outside. But the legends of the Werkself will by no means be forgotten.
“I was able to play with some of them myself. The club has a lot to thank you for. The international appeal of our club is also based on their successes. They will always remain an important part of Bayer 04. And they will continue to be present in many places in and around the BayArena,” says Leverkusen’s former captain Rolfes.
