Belgian Skater Van Elst Seeks Support from KBSF to Cover Winter Training Costs

“I am anxiously awaiting support from the KBSF. I assume that with their support I will not be able to pay more than part of the costs.” In the previous season she did not finish in the top 8 at the world championships. That assured her of a contribution.

Van Elst, with a West Flemish mother and Dutch father, lives in the Netherlands. She appealed to the talent fund of former Olympic skating champion Yvonne van Gennip.

Her goal is to raise the costs of the winter period (23,072 euros) with donations from private individuals and companies.

The season for long track skaters is extra expensive due to the competition calendar. The first World Cup competitions are in Japan and China. The circuit then continues in Europe. Finally, the circus also travels to the United States and Canada.

For more than a year now, Van Elst, a loner as a Belgian rider, has been training with the Norwegian team for a fee. The group is currently at a training camp in Heerenveen.

Initially the plan was to train in Stavanger, but due to a problem with the cooling system, the indoor artificial ice rink was unavailable.

Van Elst wants to skate with the Norwegians until the Winter Olympics in 2026. At the Games in Milan she wants to participate in the 500, 1,000 and 1,500 meters.
