Atenas Faces Tough Season in the Argentine Basketball League with Losses in Super 8 Tournament

Atenas continues to build its team to face the tough season in the Argentine Basketball League. Along the way, they lost both matches in the Super 8, a preparation tournament that ends this Thursday for Verde facing, at 7:30 p.m., Sportivo Suardi, one of the rivals they will have in the promotion category.

José Montero was one of the outstanding players that Atenas had in the losses against Barrio Parque (91-94) and Instituto (82-86) and drew a balance of the two games. “They were two very different games. Against Parque, although there are many positive things, I think we were very worried about the defensive issue. They didn’t score 94 points, and although we know that offensively we are going to be good, we need to defend, we need to lower the team’s score,” the guard from Santiago started.

“We improved the brand against Instituto. We show that when we are tough to defend, when we are focused to make the rules, to change, to do what the coach asks of us, we do much better,” Montero added to Mundo D.

-In both games they were left without a goal at the end

-Yeah. We have been left without a goal in the last minutes, in both games. But hey, it’s also part of the process we are experiencing, of getting to know each other. The construction of the team. I think this will give us experience for future games, to close it better, to know who to play for, what to play. I, for one, am very excited about the team. Beyond the two defeats, very good things are being seen.

-What did you like the most against Instituto, a League team?

-Attitude, concentration and team play. I have no idea what everyone’s points were like, but I think they were well distributed. The scoring is very distributed. And the defensive side also wanted to highlight that we took a step forward.

-And did you like the least?

-The truth is that there is nothing very bad either, because the work time we have together is little. So, if it happens at another time of the season, later on, it could be worrying, but I think now we have to continue working and polishing details. We lack time to get to know each other more. We have a basically new team, so nothing, we will try to improve every day, in every training session and try to show it in the games.

-Against Instituto they did not have Roquez Johnson, who is a key piece

-Yes Yes. Roquez is a super key piece for us. It was noticeable in the defensive rebound that they, having more height, beat us a lot. With Roquez capable, things were different, despite the fact that Juan (Oberto) did a very good job in the low post, defending and attacking. Roquez is an important piece for us and I think we have been able to make up for his absence, but we need him for the entire season.

-What phase of team construction are you in?

-We are just at the beginning, just at the beginning. We’ve been there for 15 days, if I’m not mistaken, and there are about 30 more, more or less, until the start of the season. I think we saw a lot of good things in the short time we have been there and that is the positive thing I highlight. And I’m also really liking the unity of the group, everyone outside cheering, when a teammate comes out, cheering for the one who comes in. Those are little things that I like to see.
