Sport characterized the first weekend of the Castiglione autumn with many events of national importance. «The European Sports Days – declares the Mayor Elena Nappi – restart in style after the summer season with major national events. From archery to underwater photography to triathlon, this first autumn weekend gave our territory many athletes who were able to admire the beauty of our territory, above and below the sea. I thank all the sports associations for the excellent organization and management of the various races, our municipal police and the Castiglione 2014 company for the work done and all the volunteers who did their utmost to ensure that everything was perfect.” The National Olympic Triathlon race took place on Sunday. Around 150 registered athletes who literally invaded the seafront and the surrounding areas of the coastal town, challenging themselves in an exciting race which was also valid as a Tuscan Cup test. The triathletes started from Bagno Balena with the spectacular swimming section (1.5 km), faced the cycling section towards Punta Ala, Tirli, Ampio (40 km) to descend towards the panoramic view after the last climb of Poggio d ‘Gold and finish the 10 km run along the seafront up to Bagno Balena where the awards ceremony took place. The winners, Domenico Passuello (Tritaly) and Linda Orsi (Florence Triathlon), received the prize from the hands of mayor Elena Nappi and councilor Isabelle Mariani. The Italian Individual Archery Championship took place between Saturday and Sunday. hunt, now in its 9th edition, organized by the Asd Gli Arcieri del Tiburzi. There were two competition fields, one dedicated to the “Hunter”-Technological type and the other to the “Hunting and Shooting”-Traditional type, which in the Valle delle Cannucce area saw the participation of 225 athletes from various regions. On the podium many archers, awarded by the mayor Elena Nappi together with the councilor with responsibility for sport Isabelle Mariani, based on the different competition categories. For the whole week the wonderful sea of Punta Ala was the photographic set of the Italian Digital Underwater Photography Championships organized by Puntala Diving Center together with GBSub of Florence. Many professional photographers from all over the peninsula dived in with their digital equipment to take extraordinary and unprecedented photos of the seabed. In the Council Hall the final awards were given to Fabio Iardino (Soc. Friulana Subacquei) for the reflex category, Michele Sbrilli for the compact category, F. Visintin – S.Cerbai – C. Smorti (Soc. Centro Sub Alto Tirreno) for the company category, Elena Piccoli for the smartphone category. The special Italo Calvino prize was also awarded, created by the municipal administration on the occasion of the centenary, won by Enrico Panebianco of the Catania team for having taken the most representative shot of the seabed of Punta Ala.
