Manuel Neuer guarded the goal, Mats Hummels cleared in front of it. Toni Kroos pulled the strings in midfield and Thomas Müller and Timo Werner were at the front. They are all familiar names that you haven’t read together in a row for a long time.
Strictly speaking, it’s a little more than two years, because those five were in the starting line-up in the European Championship round of 16 in 2021, when the German national team lost 2-0 to England at Wembley Stadium. An era came to an end on that summer evening, as Joachim Löw resigned as national coach after 15 years.

Things have become quiet around the world champion coach since then. There were occasional rumors about a new coaching job, but in the end he didn’t sign anything. And the 63-year-old has also held back from making public statements since then.
Joachim Löw consciously decided to take a break
In the podcast “Spielmacher – The European Championship Talk with Sebastian Hellmann and 360Media” Löw spoke again. He reported that he had consciously decided to take a break from the football business.
“In the first year I realized that I needed some distance – emotional distance. I was with this team for 17 years without interruption with all my actions and all my thoughts. That cost me a lot of energy.”recalled the former national coach.

Despite his sporting successes, he also lost quality of life during his time in office: “Some other things fall by the wayside. I had little time for my family. I didn’t see friends for years because I lost contact. That was up to me.”
After the DFB farewell, he needed some time to recharge his batteries. As a result, there were “repeated serious inquiries, offers and discussions.” In 2022, however, there was nothing “that I was particularly interested in”.
Joachim Löw confirms talks with association
Things looked different this year. “The Turkish association recently contacted me,” Löw confirmed rumors from September. Accordingly, he could have taken over Stefan Kuntz’s Turkish national team. “But then they found another solution,” added the world champion coach without rating.
Vincenzo Montella now occupies the post on the Bosphorus, so Löw is still available. However, not for everything: “If someone calls and says we have to win all the games no matter what, then I’m not interested.”
So he is turning down various top clubs, specifically possibly even Real Madrid. Los Blancos have been linked with him in 2021.
Löw himself sees himself as more likely to be involved in a project in which long-term success comes first: “I have fun and enjoy development and content. The development of a philosophy in a club, which includes training, would be exciting for me.”

Despite the club’s far-sightedness and his personal ties, he doesn’t see himself at SC Freiburg, for whom he was a professional for years. “They are doing extremely well, but Freiburg doesn’t need anyone,” he praised the work of coach Christian Streich and his colleagues.
It is possible that another door will open at the DFB, for example as a coordinator for the youth sector. “There are already a few problems” in German football, Löw noted meaningfully. In any case, the 63-year-old is not completely finished yet.
As is so often the case, on It can now be said: apparently with success. Because FC Bayern is now refraining from signing the former national player and Bayern professional Jérôme Boateng.
