The Judo Association of Duarte Province (Asojuprodu) reported this Friday that it has nothing to do with the 23 young people, including former judokas, who were arrested at the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic while allegedly trying to seek a visa with falsified documents.
«The Judo Association of the Duarte Province dissociates itself from this criminal action. We have nothing to do with this and we are open to all the information we can give to the American consulate to clarify the situation,” the institution assured.
Asojuprodu also clarified that the Sergio Javier Then Judo School, of the San Francisco de Macorís municipality, stopped operating four years ago (2019) and the action of the group of 23 young people is unknown.
Its founder, who has the same name, spoke with the newspaper Hoy and said that he has been residing in the United States for more than 10 years and has nothing to do with the case. “I am open to all the information that the United States Embassy needs to clarify the situation,” he said.

Former judokas would have falsified the stamped sheet, seal and digital signatures of Fedojudo directors They identify the 23 athletes arrested at the US Embassy with false documents
Several days ago, the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo) reported that the group of former athletes had falsified the stamp sheet, seal and digital signatures of its main directors.
Said sports organization detailed that it is a group of former judokas and other people (which it did not identify), who also falsified an invitation letter from the Puerto Rican Judo Federation.
Also, says Fedojudo, they forged the digital signatures of its president, Gilberto García, and Luisa Martínez, general secretary.
“The Dominican Judo Federation dissociates itself from this criminal action. We have nothing to do with this and we are open to all the information we can give to the American consulate to clarify the situation,” said García.
The head of Fedojudo reported that the investigation is being carried out to find the ringleaders and those responsible for the incident.
They don’t know how they did it
He insisted that he does not know how those involved in the criminal act managed to falsify the federation’s stamp sheet, seal and the digital signatures of the president and the general secretary, in addition to a letter from an event in Puerto Rico, where supposedly the Judo Federation of That country gave the endorsement, as did the documentation from the Duarte Province Judo Association.
García recalled that Fedojudo has always respected the visa application process for US territory, highlighting good relations so that “our athletes participate in North American territory” always respecting legal regulations.
Coercion request postponed
The Fifth Investigative Court of the National District postponed until this Friday the hearing of the request for coercive measures against 23 athletes.
Judge Rigoberto Sena postponed the hearing so that the North American embassy in the country could be notified, and due to the absence of the defense of one of the defendants.
The visa that the young people had requested was supposedly to participate in a sporting event at Albany High School in the North American country.
The Public Ministry divided the group of athletes into two groups: 12 who attended this Thursday and another 11 who will be informed of the requests for coercive measures tomorrow, Friday. The group is accused of falsification of private writing, in violation of articles 150 and 151 of the Dominican Penal Code.
