The first edition of the “Etna Cup” will be staged on the parquet of the building in via Sergente Sapienza in Viagrande, the triangular match, sponsored by Mediolanum Banca and sponsored by FIP Sicilia, which will pit Pallacanestro Viagrande, the Sicilian Serie B champion of the last two seasons, at I Have a Team Ragusa and San Matteo Messina, finalists, respectively, of the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 tournaments. For the teams it will be a precious testing opportunity, in view of the start of the major regional tournament, scheduled for Sunday 29 October, with the opening day, scheduled for the Viagrandese facility.
“Both the opening day and the Etna Cup put Viagrande and the “PalaTomarchio” in the spotlight of the Sicilian women’s movement,” explains Giovanni Spinella, general director of the Etna club. “Tomorrow will trigger the history of this tournament which we expect will characterize the Sicilian women’s pre-season for a long time. We want it to be an opportunity for the city of Viagrande to come together, but also that, together with our seasonal activity, it can act as a driving force for youth teams, bringing the little ones closer to this sport. It will be an event of excellence for which I thank Mediolanum Banca, official partner of the event, and the Sicilian FIP, which provided its patronage. Obviously I’m curious to see our girls at work on the pitch. The work with coach Seino in recent weeks has been intense and tomorrow will be a significant test from a championship perspective.”
