DFB performance “very good in terms of football”
Julian Nagelsmann gave his players a lot of praise after his successful international debut as national coach. After the 3-1 win against the USA on Saturday in Hartford, the 36-year-old spoke of a deserved victory and rated the national team’s performance as “very good in terms of football”. After the 1-1 score at the break, patience in the game was better in the second half.
He singled out captain and goalscorer Ilkay Gündogan from his team. “Ilkay played an outstanding game. He wanted every ball.” But “not everything was brilliant,” said Nagelsmann. “But that’s good, I still have something to do,” he summed up after the first game on the USA trip.

Next Wednesday (2:00 a.m./ARD) the DFB selection will play another test match in Philadelphia against Mexico. The national coach announced personnel changes in Hartford because he wanted to see as many players as possible from the 25-man squad in the game. Joshua Kimmich returned to Germany early on Saturday due to a flu-like infection.
Nagelsmann received very positive feedback from the team after his debut victory. The trainer impressed his players with his demeanor and ideas during their first week together in the USA, as goal scorer Niclas Füllkrug reported.

“We notice that there is someone standing in front of us who has an authoritarian, good demeanor. You also notice it in the meetings. It is a natural authority, not an artificial one. He can provide everything with explanations and solutions. “It immediately makes an impression when you as a player notice that it’s working,” explained the 30-year-old Borussia Dortmund striker after the game. A handwriting in the game was recognizable.
Captain Gündogan was also impressed by the starting phase with Nagelsmann. “It was a style of football that was a little different,” said the 32-year-old about the style of play and tactical arrangement on the pitch. The training bears fruit quickly. “We did a lot of good things in such a short time,” said the goalscorer to make it 1-1. “Pull the things we tackle. The coach’s ideas are powerful and take us to the next level,” added Füllkrug. “He is a coach who has a lot of ideas and is very ambitious.”
