Balikpapan City Badminton Team Aims for Overall Championship at East Kalimantan Badminton Championship

BALIKPAPAN, Ini Balikpapan.com- The All Indonesian Badminton Association of Balikpapan City is targeting the overall champion in the East Kalimantan Province Badminton Championship (Kejurprov) in Samarinda City, which will take place from Wednesday (18/10) to Sunday (22/10). The Balikpapan City Badminton Team is targeting the overall championship at the East Kalimantan Badminton Championship.

A total of approximately 60 badminton athletes were sent to Samarinda for the Badminton Provincial Championship. The Mayor of Balikpapan released the athletes accompanied by the Head of the Youth and Sports and Tourism Department, Cokorda Ratih, at the Balikpapan city government yard. In this East Kalimantan provincial level championship, badminton matches are contested at children, cadets, youth and adult levels.

“We sent approximately 60 people to Samarinda, leaving today until Sunday (22/10). Our target at Kejurprov Badminton is to win the overall championship. “Usually we often win overall,” said PBSI Balikpapan Chairman Alwi Al Qadri during the release at the Balikpapan City Government office, Tuesday (17/10/2023).

“Thank God, we were accepted by the mayor and released. If we win, we will continue to the national level (national championship). “Right now it’s Kejurprov, yesterday we carried out Kejurkot and made selections,” he continued.

In this selection, Alwi emphasized that there were no entrusted athletes. and this is what is best for Balikpapan which is selected and selected. “We hope that everyone who competes in Kejurporv will become the overall champion,” he said.

In this championship, PBSI Balikpapan also brought in a native Balikpapan son from Manggar who had just become world champion in Germany. This integrated athlete won the international event in Germany, namely first place in mixed doubles and second place in men’s doubles.

“Those are integrated athletes who are trained under PBSI Balikpapan. it can be seen in the news. “Hopefully this can spread to his younger siblings and hopefully more Balikpapan players can join National Training Center and can make not only Balikpapan’s name proud but also East Kalimantan and nationally,” he said.

For participation, Balikpapan Badminton athletes receive assistance from the City Government through the Balikpapan Sports Department and also third party assistance through PBSI Balikpapan.

“Koni doesn’t have a budget. So this is assistance from the Balikpapan Dispora for departure. “If anything, PBSI will find the rest,” he said.
