Eva Lys caused a big surprise at the WTA tournament in Cluj. The 21-year-old from Hamburg was able to defeat number one seed Sorana Cirstea 6:3, 6:3 and as a reward she moved into the round of 16. Lys, who is ranked 133rd in the world and is more than a hundred places lower than her opponent (26), needed 1:12 hours for her victory
Anna Lena-Friedsam had previously easily reached the round of 16. In the first round, the 29-year-old from Neuwied gave Romanian Ilona Ghioroaie no chance at 6:1, 6:1. A little later, Tamara Korpatsch from Hamburg followed suit and beat Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean 6:4, 2:6, 6:3.
