French Players Aim to become World No.1 in Badminton Rankings: The Popov Brothers Lead the Charge

To be the French No.1 in the world rankings as of April 30, 2024. A mission that drives all French players, candidates for the Olympics, and more particularly the Popov brothers in each confrontation on the BWF circuit.

Last week in Finland (Super 500), it was Christo who performed by dominating world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn. On Tuesday, it was his big brother who took the scalp of the 6th in the world. A major player who became Asian champion last week, as if to further illustrate the performance of the Provençal player (12-21, 21-6, 21-17).

Christo Popov on the other hand, no feat

“Tomi” Popov will face a new Chinese player this Thursday, Hong Yang Weng (22nd in the world at the BWF) who fought to eliminate the Indian Kidambi in three sets (19-21, 21-10, 21-16). For Christo Popov, on the other hand, no exploit against the Indonesian Anthony Ginting as was the case in November 2021. The 2020-2022 French champion fell in two sets (21-15, 21-15) against the champion Indonesian. A complicated day for the youngest of the siblings since the Brothers were also eliminated in doubles against Malaysians Chia-Soh (16-21, 18-21).
