Alejandra Higueros was the first Guatemalan athlete to compete during the day. Her participation was the most notable of the first day of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 since she managed to take second place in the women’s individual taekwondo poomsae event. The Guatemalan won the silver medal and was crowned the second best athlete in that sport in America.

Erick Gordillo
The swimmer originally from Izabal competed in the 200-meter butterfly event in which he obtained sixth place and was positioned among the best 10 swimmers of that discipline in America. In addition, he still has other opportunities during the games to get a medal.
