After bitter disappointments in Wimbledon and New York, Sebastian Korda has recently found his way back on track.

At the beginning of the year, Sebastian Korda was on everyone’s lips in the tennis world. After missing a match point in the final in Adelaide against Novak Djokovic, the American also got off to a good start at the Australian Open, defeating, among others, Daniil Medvedev and making it to the quarterfinals. There, a wrist injury forced him to retire against Karen Khachanow.
The ups and downs continued for the 23-year-old. There was little to gain for Korda on his weakest surface, clay, and he consequently ended up in the second round of Roland Garros. Things surprisingly went even worse for the son of former Australian Open winner Petr Korda at the other majors of the year. He failed in the first round both at Wimbledon and at home at the US Open.
The preparation with semi-final qualifications in Queen’s and Winston-Salem respectively gave cause for confidence. In New York, Korda was limited again due to ankle problems.

Strong performance in Shanghai
Before the tournament in Basel, the man from Florida is now on the rise again. In Asia he gained new self-confidence: in Zhuhai, China, he played his way to the semi-finals, in Astana (KAZ) he only had to bow to Adrian Mannarino in the final. Most recently in Shanghai he made it into the last four of an ATP 1000 tournament for the first time in his career. He lost to the eventual winner Hubert Hurkacz, who is also competing at the Swiss Indoors.
