It didn’t take long to see Jaime Jaquez Jr. have minutes of action with the Miami Heat during the regular season, after the Mexican appeared for 13 minutes in his team’s victory against the Detroit Pistons, by a score of 103 -102.
The graduate of the University of California in Los Angeles contributed six points, two rebounds, two assists and also showed his talent on defense, as he stole the ball twice and committed two personal fouls.
Despite being a rookie, he looked confident on the Kaseya Center court, as he handled the ball, entered the paint and, at times, moved his offense.
Jaquez was among the starting five when his team was no more than 10 points ahead with around seven minutes of action remaining, which speaks to the confidence that coach Erik Spoelstra has gained in sight. Although the match was complicated in the end, the current Eastern Conference champion team managed to win.
How did the other Heat players finish?
Bam Adebayo was the best man in Miami’s attack with 22 points, Jimmy Butler, leader of the quintet, signed his first double-double with 19 points and 13 boards. Kevin Love was one of the players who stood out in the match with 13 points and 10 boards.
On the part of the Pistons, their best man was Cade Cunningham, registering 30 points, while Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart sealed a double-double, respectively, however, this did not prevent them from starting the season with a loss.
What’s next for the Heat?
After debuting at home, Miami now begins a mini tour of three games outside its arena. This Friday he goes to Boston, on Saturday he visits Minnesota and closes on Monday in Milwaukee. What tougher duels, since both the Celtics and the Bucks are lined up alongside the Heat to compete for the East title. It is expected that the Mexican Jaquez will continue to have minutes of action in these matches.
